P. Shannon Pendergrast, PhD
Chief Science Officer
Dr. Pendergrast received his PhD from the Rutgers University Waksman Institute of Microbiology in Molecular Genetics, did his post-doctoral training at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories, and has over 12 years of experience in industry as a Scientist, Executive, and Entrepreneur. Throughout his career Dr. Pendergrast has developed cutting edge methods to further our understanding of biological processes. As a graduate fellow in the lab of Dr. Richard Ebright he developed a novel crosslinking method to study protein-nucleic acid complex structure as well as an artificial restriction enzyme capable of cleaving megabase-sized substrates. During his post-doctoral research with Dr. Nouria Hernandez he used compensatory mutations to probe protein interactions on the HIV-1 promoter. As a Senior Principal Investigator at The Archemix Corp he developed a new method to deliver RNA aptamer therapeutics to cells. As CSO of Ymir Genomics LLC he entered the field of Biomarker Discovery and characteristically went right to work developing innovative new methods to improve extracellular biomarker isolation from biofluids. He has published over 30 scientific papers, patents and book chapters and is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Circulating Biomarkers.
R. Scott Pendergrast

Mr. Pendergrast received his BA in Communications from Rutgers University. He spent 14 years at New York Life Insurance producing internal and external media. After ascending to Corporate Vice President of Business Television, he left the company to found Mindwise Media LLC to start multiple successful teaching websites and later Fictionwise Inc., one of the first ePublishing companies. At the time of its acquisition by Barnes and Noble Inc., Fictionwise had become the largest independent ebook retailer in the United States. At Ymir Genomics LLC, Scott oversees all business and scientific development. He is co-author on several scientific patents.
J. Stephen Pendergrast
Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Pendergrast received his BA (Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa) and Masters degrees in Computer Science from Rutgers University. He enjoyed an exceptional career as a Software Engineer, achieving “Distinguished” status at AT&T Bell Labs/Novell/Unix System Labs. He then embarked on a successful career as an entrepreneur, first founding Kobixx Systems, Inc. (later acquired by Knowledgesoft, Inc.) to develop online training and testing software systems. After Kobixx Systems he joined Scott at Fictionwise, Inc. (later acquired by Barnes and Noble Inc.) as its CTO where he developed a sophisticated online retail website and cutting edge security, marketing, and royalty tracking software. At Ymir Genomics LLC he has not only directed innovative data mining software development but also made important contributions to the theory and execution of the biological projects. He has several scientific papers, patents, and one book: Desktop Kornshell Graphical Programming (Addison Wesley).
Anna Markowska, PhD
Senior Scientist
Dr. Markowska received her BS in Biochemistry and Biological Physics from Syracuse University. She received her PhD in Biochemistry from Tufts University where she published several innovative studies in glycoprotein biochemistry, receptor biology and angiogenesis. She is expert in tissue culture, molecular biology, protein biochemistry, and RNA biology. At Ymir Genomics LLC she has been integral to the development, optimization, and characterization of novel methods.
